As an experienced, dedicated, and skilled teacher, you know that top-down professional development isn’t working. It’s neither professional nor does it develop. And we can’t wait around for change that isn’t coming. We must build our own culture of professionalism together as active partners in each other’s professional learning.

The purpose of our journey is more professional flourishment. Flourishment is a sense of professional well-being and resilience—which I think is something we all need right now as teachers. It’s what you feel when you’re in the zone, in the flow, as a teacher. Despite the challenges we face, we’re able to create math classrooms where we see our students thinking, thriving, and happy.
I hope this series elevates and expands our capacity for more professional flourishment — individually and collectively.
This job is too damn hard not to be in love with the work we’re doing.
